Scrapbook Album Kits

Jenny asks…
Do they make 3-ring 12x12 scrapbook Album kits?
I'm new to scrapbooking. I went to a craft store today and was looking around to see what I would like. I decided that I like the 3-ring 12x12 scrapbook albums. I also saw some scrapbook Album kits that have all the supplies to get started (the "all in one" kits). However, I only saw these kits for the post-bound albums. Do they make these kits for the 12x12 three-ring albums?
Ideally, I want my kids to help with the scrapbooking because it is for their pictures from school.
Thanks!

Donna asks…
Scrapbook help? Can't figure out how to add pages to my expandable album?
Ordered an album from ebay. It clearly states "Expanding library spine allows you to add pages & protectors in the future to add to your album. " My only problem is that I can't figure out how to add pages. I bought a universal refillable pages kit from walmart, which came with 10 plastic covers, 10 white pages, four grey things with the holes, and 3 little screws. Can you help me out? It looks like theres room for the cover to expand, but I see no screws.

Scrappy answers:
Open the back cover. There should be a piece that covers the screws, usually held in place by magnets. Simply unscrew, add more posts (those screw like things) if needed, add the page protectors, and put it all back together.
Most expandable scrapbooks can extend to 2" thick, but I would recommend not going that deep.
(It will make sense if you're reading the directions while trying them out on your scrapbook.)
If all else fails, go to a local crafts store like Michael's.

Laura asks…
Scrapbook kit help please?
I just bought a complete scrapbook kit. It came with some very confusing instructions about how to expand the spine. I dont know whether this album allows you to add extra pages or not but it came with an expansion spine. I just dont know how to put this together at all

Scrappy answers:
When you open the album cover look at the area where the spine is connected. Is there a flap there that you can lift up? If it is the type I'm thinking of then there would be two screws under that flap.
As you do the next step make sure that you pay attention to the order of the different pieces so you can put it back together correctly.
To expand the album you will need to open it from the back, lift the flap, using a straight slot screw driver unscrew it. Now you can add the extension posts that either came with the album or that came with the extra pages you bought.
After you have added the extension screws add the extra pages. As you finish make sure that you are putting everything back in the order that they need to be when you are done. Next screw the original screw head piece back in place. You're done.
If the album you purchased was a strap type It takes careful attention. You may be able to find instructions online somewhere on how to do it.
I hope this was helpful.

Scrapbook help PLS???
My husband and I took a holiday recently and i want to create that into a memorable, elegant scrapbook. But I have NO clue how to go about it.
This will be my first attempt. I've been intrigued by the idea of an "event scrapbook" - makes it more personal than sticking it into an album.
All the websites give instructions on borders, photo corners and things which really make no sense to me.
For instance, what books to use? I have an artist's sprial bound book with thick paper, can I use that or is there a special scrapbook album that has to be used? What are background papers? Is this a must to use or do people use the plain papers of the book itself as a background.
I have so many little mementoes and keepsakes from our trip that would complement our pics. I really really want to do this well but need help. Pls help out!!
PS I do not have a scrapbook supplies store in the area. I saw a beginners' kit in a bookshop but it wasnt so nice.

Scrappy answers:
First, gather all pictures and keepsakes you want to include in your book, and put them in a chronological order (from beginning to end), or some type of order. Sort through them, making sure pictures and keepsakes complement each other. You don't have to use all of your pictures.
There are many sizes of scrapbooks to use. There are12x12, 12x15, 81/2x11, 8x8, and 6x6 books. Most of the paper for scrapbooking is "acid" free (or ligin free), which basically means that the paper you are putting your pictures on won't turn yellow over time. Most scrapbooking paper comes in the 12x12 size. They can be cut to any size you want.
Basically, you want to enhance your pictures and keepsakes. Find a "theme" for your trip (i.e., golf, beach, skiing, etc.) There are many papers you can order over the net, and most stores that carry scrapbooking items will have a "mini-album" kit which will include paper, stickers, cutouts, and a few ideas. Stickers, stamps, glitter, photo corners, yarn, and many other items can be used to decorate the pages.
A border goes around the page or a specific picture. Photo corners go on the corners of pictures to help hold them down (think of the 1940s era, with the black tabs holding pictures down).
There is no perfect way to do a scrapbook. This is yours, and you can make it as fancy or simple as you want. At first, it will be hard to get used to the terms but once you are in it, you will be hooked.
Some of the items you will need first of all are: Small straight scissors, paper cutter, adhesives (to hold down your pictures), pens (any color), pencils, paper (of course). Some more possibilities are stamps and ink pads.
Is there a Wal-Mart near you? They have a small sample of scrapbooking items. Ebay is a good place to look for scrapbook Album kits.
I'm glad you have taken the initiative to review scrapbooking websites. There are lots of ideas for pages. A page is either 1 or 2 pages (or it might be called a "layout"). Keep reviewing the websites for inspiration. They'll have a lot of "extra" stuff but you don't need that yet until you feel comfortable with what you have.
